If you’re thinking of getting started early on Xmas shopping, the Smithers-based Northern Lights Wildlife Society has you covered. Until November 30, it’s selling a 2021 calendar featuring adorable photos of local animals taken by staff and volunteers.
“Many of you have asked and here it is,” reads a recent Facebook post from the juvenile animal rehabilitation group.
“The calendar features our special guests from 2020, those animals that your donations and support gave a chance at a long life in the wild,” the society explains. “With your purchase you save lives and give wildlife in desperate need a second chance.”
One of the society’s more famous animals is the bear cub that recently tried to cross the border between Stewart and Hyder.
“Annie the Border Cub has settled in well,” reads a recent Facebook post from the society. “As she is only 21lb she will not hibernate (she should be around 50lb) and be fed all winter. Unlike other mammals, bear cubs don’t get stunted in growth. Once they get good food they start growing again, so she should catch up to the others over the next few months.”
