Virginia Charron spent 20 years leading the Kitimat Public Library. And now the Library Director is ready to retire.
“Today is Virginia’s (Ginny Binny) very last day!” explains a recent post on the Kitimat Public Library Association’s Facebook page.
Celebrated Haisla writer Eden Robinson showed up to congratulate Charron, who became a well-known face in the community over the past two decades.
Charron isn’t done with the library just yet though. She’ll continue to visit regularly “as it is one of her favourite spots in the community to pick up great books, to attend fabulous programs, author readings and workshops, including Eden’s, a devout Library patron, a personal friend and a superbly accomplished writer,” the Facebook post reads.
Charron led many important initiatives over the years, including offering support for French language services, keeping services active during federal government budget cuts and more recently partnering with My Mountain Co-op to offer day passes for Shames Mountain.
“Happy retirement Virginia!!” one person commented. “Thank you for all your hard work.”
